Rangers fan fury predicted as Jack Butland ‘definitely not’ England verdict emerges
Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland definitely won’t play at Euro 2024 even if he was included in the England squad following the injury to Sam Johnstone.
That is according to talkSPORT’s Hugh Woozencroft, with Scott Minto predicting angry Ibrox fans after that claim.
England manager Gareth Southgate included Johnstone in his latest squad alongside Jordan Pickford and Aaron Ramsdale, but the Crystal Palace man has now been ruled out of the major tournament this summer.
“The third choice goalkeeper… Sam Johnstone would have been there, he’s now missing for the rest of the season and he will miss the Euros,” Woozencroft said on talkSPORT (27 March).
“So we need a third choice goalkeeper, and for me it’s a much of a muchness between Jack Butland, Dean Henderson… Nick Pope I don’t think will be fit. If he is I think it would be him, but I don’t think he’ll get fitness before the end of the season. Listen, this player is definitely not playing, the third choice goalkeeper.”
Minto interjected: “There’s going to be a lot of Rangers fans not happy with us,” with Woozencroft replying: “They aren’t going to play are they? Jack Butland can come if he wants to, but Pickford and Ramsdale are certainly going to be numbers one and two.”

Butland had big gloves to fill upon his arrival at Ibrox last summer, having come in for the legendary Allan McGregor.
But he hasn’t let the pressure get to him, with the former Crystal Palace, Stoke City and Manchester United man immediately hitting the ground running in Glasgow.
His displays between the sticks have saved the Gers on countless occasions, with such performances deserving of an England recall this month.
But Three Lions boss Southgate opted to overlook the Ibrox ace, instead unsurprisingly calling upon Everton’s Pickford, along with Palace’s Johnstone and Arsenal outcast Ramsdale.
The situation has, however, already changed, with Butland now in with a chance of making the England squad this summer after the long-term injury to Johnstone.
But for now he must focus all of his energy on helping the Gers finish the season strongly, with Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup glory both on the cards.
