Rangers: John Lundstram exit now on the cards at Ibrox as contacts begin for summer transfer

Trabzonspor have reportedly made contact with Rangers over a potential move for John Lundstram, according to Akdeniz Gercek.

The Turkish news outlet reported on 27 March that Lundstram’s contract with the Scottish giants expires at the end of the season, leaving the door open for the Turkish outfit to discuss terms with the player.

The central midfielder is not the only Rangers player to have caught Trabzonspor’s eye, with a move for Borna Barisic also mooted [Sabah Spor].

Rangers should be loath to lose John Lundstram

Trabzonspor’s interest in Lundstram’s services is understandable.

The 30-year-old has been a crucial figure for title-chasing Rangers this season, making a whopping 44 appearances across all competitions – only goalkeeper Jack Butland and club captain James Tavernier have made more.

Lundstram’s steady presence at the base of midfield has played a significant part in their superb defensive record of just 16 goals conceded in 29 games – the best in the division.

Losing the midfielder would be a much greater blow than the potential departure of Barisic, who has lost his starting spot to Ridvan Yilmaz in recent months and can be replaced.

Philippe Clement will surely be keen for the club to fend off any interest in Lundstram and tie the star down to a new contract before he agrees to a move elsewhere.

In other Rangers news, Clement has been boosted by the news that a star performer could be fit to face Hibernian.
