Rangers: Permanent Oscar Cortes transfer wanted amid ‘unbelievable’ Ibrox situation
Derek Ferguson wants Rangers to follow through with a permanent deal for Oscar Cortes despite his injury situation.
The Colombian winger arrived in January, nominally to fill the gap left by fellow absent loan star Abdallah Sima, and impressed immediately, but was then knocked out himself after just seven appearances in what the BBC Sport pundit has branded an “unbelievable” injury situation.
However Ferguson was delighted by what he saw from the 20-year-old and believes the “exciting” attacker has already done enough to convince the Ibrox hierarchy he is worth keeping hold of.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “What we saw in that brief spell was he’s an exciting player. He gets the bums off the seats. He’s of those you want to pay to go and watch because he’s exciting.
“It’s just a shame with that injury, it’s unbelievable what’s happened at Rangers this season.
“But I’m going to be open and honest here, I know he’s only played a few games but I like what I’ve seen. Not just his quality, I love his attitude.
“If we can get him back fit, even towards the end of this season if he can play a part it’d be magic, but long term I’d love to see us signing him because I like that type of player.
“He’s a type of player Rangers fans love to see.”

Can Rangers keep Oscar Cortes and Abdallah Sima?
The injury luck at Ibrox this season has been miserable even by the standards of the past few years but Cortes looked to be well on the way to earning a permanent move before he joined Sima, Danilo and other attacking stars out long term.
On early evidence he would be an excellent addition and Philippe Clement is sure to be interested in getting the deal done.
Signing him from Lens is likely to cost significantly less than it would to retain Brighton’s Sima so if it is one or the other then Cortes will surely get the nod, although it is the Senegal international who is due back in action relatively imminently.
But with Scott Wright potentially leaving and Rabbi Matondo’s status in the squad forever up in the air it would give Rangers a formidable pair of options if both could stay.
