Rangers slap down Joey Barton with official Ibrox statement after Women’s team controversy

Rangers have slapped down Joey Barton after releasing an official Ibrox statement following a women’s team controversy, according to David Edgar.

After Barton posted on social media mocking 17-year-old Partick Thistle Women’s keeper Ava Easdon after the Gers’ 4-1 Sky Sports Cup final victory on 24 March, the club have condemned any “discriminatory and misogynistic” comments that have been made following the game on their website on 26 March.

Edgar, who hosts The Heart and Hand Podcast, said the Light Blues are “slapping down” their former player following his remarks about the women’s game.

Rangers taking hard stance over Joey Barton comments

It is completely and utterly unacceptable for Barton to be criticising Easdon so heavily on the back of the cup final.

The former Gers midfielder has made a number of controversial remarks on his Twitter page over the past few months that have been seriously offensive to a number of people.

The Englishman’s latest comments have once again caused plenty of uproar and the club clearly feel enough is enough after calling out his actions.

It’s about time this happened more as a 17-year-old girl should not be getting shamed by someone who really should know better but is continuing to talk so poorly about the women’s game.

If he doesn’t want to be associated with it, then just don’t watch it. There are plenty of people who are interested and want to help the game progress.

The Light Blues have done the right thing by calling him out.

In other Rangers news, Neil Lennon has labelled a situation as “unacceptable” after what happened to the Gers.
