Rangers must prioritise Sam Lammers summer sale after latest comments live on TV

Rangers must make it a priority to recoup any money they can for Sam Lammers once the summer transfer window opens.

The flop signing lasted just seven months at Ibrox before being loaned out to Eredivisie side Utrecht, where he is clearly enjoying himself.

Lammers has given repeated interviews implying he is eager to cut ties with Rangers, and the feeling is surely mutual at this point.

Sam Lammers record for Rangers

Speaking on Dutch TV show Cafe Galgenwaard, as per the Daily Record [26 March], Lammers said: “It seems clear to me that I enjoy it here.

“I am in the right place, yes. The supporters certainly matter to me. I really like to see that appreciation.”

Lammers has scored three goals and assisted three more in 10 appearances for Utrecht in the Dutch top flight since arriving in January. No wonder he feels appreciated.

That is closer to the form of a player that cost the Gers around £3.5million, rather than the player who scored twice in 31 outings for the club and assisted just once.

It would be easy to look at Lammers’ improved form and think there will be a place for him at Ibrox next season, but that is not the case.

How long is Sam Lammers under contract for at Rangers?

The 26-year-old, who is under contract at Ibrox until 2027, failed his audition and his valuation is only going to plummet beyond this summer.

Utrecht would no doubt be just as eager as Lammers to conclude a deal, and it could be Rangers get their entire fee back.

That may be wishful thinking, but it is clear that getting Lammers off the books should be the first port of call once the summer window opens.

The money raised can then go towards bringing in a player that can actually strengthen the first XI ready for the 2024-25 campaign.

And with Philippe Clement now at the helm rather than Michael Beale, these flop signings should hopefully be few and far between.

In other Rangers news, Tam McManus has shared a “pivotal” development that could make Celtic the Old Firm favourites.
