Rangers: Four Lads react to ‘atrocious’ Ross McCausland injury blow at Ibrox

Stevie Clifford, host of the Four Lads Had A Dream podcast, has fumed at the “atrocious” challenge on Ross McCausland in the clash between Rangers and Motherwell which left the winger injured.

Clifford recounted that people have been blaming the injury on McCausland and slammed those criticising him, insisting his attitude since coming through the ranks at Ibrox has been terrific.

He went on to explain that Rangers need as many players returning to fitness as possible ahead of the run-in, with McCausland touted to make game-changing contributions in the title race.

Speaking on The Rangers Review [26 March], Clifford shared: “Obviously the Motherwell injury was his fault because everything is Rangers’ fault these days, I’ve seen people say he went in weakly and stuff like that.

“The tackle was atrocious and he has got deep-rooted bruising and stuff like that, it’s obviously going to cause him issues even now. For a young man, his attitude is terrific. He’s a massive Rangers fan who just wants to do well for the club.

“Nobody could have predicted his rise to the first team the way that he has. Who’s to say that McCausland won’t play that killer ball or find a couple of goals or a couple of assists that could be absolutely vital in this run?

“We need everybody available for options. Get behind the wee fella, and hopefully, he’s over it soon.”

Ross McCausland suffers latest injury blow for Rangers

While this injury appears more complex than a muscle injury or just a blow, Rangers must ensure McCausland is adequately rested to recover and focus on getting back to full fitness ahead of the crucial stage of the season.

This has come after Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill explained that McCausland would sit out of their clash against Scotland on Tuesday as he needs to rest and recover from his injury sustained in a blow against Motherwell.

With the title race as tight as it has been this season, McCausland is the sort of player that could make the difference in a tight game with his determination and spirit which ultimately could decide the title race in Rangers’ favour.

The winger has earned high praise this season despite the doubters, and while he is certainly raw and has plenty of development left to make at Ibrox, his surprise rise into the first team this season has been a major positive.
