Rangers: £20million-plus Jack Butland profit on the cards at Ibrox as Premier League bid mooted

Derek Ferguson can’t believe that Rangers managed to pick up Jack Butland on a free transfer when he soon could be a hugely-lucrative Ibrox sale.

The pundit hopes the recently-snubbed former England international stays at Ibrox for the long-term but is expecting a top clubs in the Premier League to come sniffing around with a bid of more than £20million predicted this summer.

Ferguson remains hopeful that the clear bond between the 31-year-old and Philippe Clement might see off the transfer threat but if the temptation proves too much he is stunned by the profit that could be on the cards.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “To think we got him for nothing, on a free, and we could sell him for, and I’m going to say this, £20m-plus, what a bit of business that would be.

“But you want top players to be at Rangers and you want to win things. He’s got that relationship with the manager, you can actually see that, the respect between the two of them.

“So fingers crossed Big Jack stays with us but I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the big boys down in England wanted to come in and snap him up.”

Huge boost to Rangers player trading model incoming?

There are bound to be a number of departures from Ibrox this summer but Butland certainly isn’t one Rangers will be shopping around unless they are in desperate need of cash.

He has attracted enough attention on his own though thanks to his performances this term, with Nottingham Forest already knocked back with a big-money offer in January [Scottish Sun, 25 February].

That the former Crystal Palace man turned down that opportunity perhaps provides hope that he would do so again, but depending on who might put a bid in it could be too hard to resist.

He isn’t the only player tipped to make the Light Blues a lot of money in the transfer market with Dujon Sterling impressing after his own free transfer signing, but Butland looks to be the most saleable asset if the manager needs funds to perform another squad overhaul.

In other Rangers news, Clement has received a hugely-welcome injury boost ahead of the Old Firm derby.
