Rangers Women: Hearts ridiculed over outraged Tynecastle statement after Sky Sports Cup win

Hearts’ “extremely disappointing” response to Rangers Women celebrating their Sky Sports Cup Final victory in the Tyncastle dressing room has been ridiculed by Heart & Hand.

The Gers-focused outlet reacted via Twitter on 25 March after the Jam Tarts released an outraged statement the same day, promising to “demand answers” as to why a Rangers mat had been placed over the Hearts badge in footage of the post-match celebrations after the 4-1 win over Partick Thistle.

The Gers women’s team had celebrated with the trophy at the neutral venue after the game, having also done the same a year earlier at the same ground without incident, but this time Hearts claimed their crest had been “defaced” without permission and that “no explanation will be satisfactory”.

Laughing at the statement Heart & Hand posted in reaction, “Jesus Christ” before following up with mock outrage, “Here Rangers FC I saw a Hearts sticker on a lamp-post near Ibrox subway in 1997. I demand a statement.”

Rangers celebrations central to pointless controversy

In the endless game of point-scoring between Scottish clubs plenty are prone to an overreaction at the merest slight at times, including the Light Blues.

But while there are indeed very valid issues that need addressing within the game this really doesn’t seem like one and begs the question of what Hearts really expected.

If Tynecastle is to be used as a neutral venue for a game in which they are not involved then by definition the two sides won’t match up to their surroundings, but since the Jambos weren’t on the receiving end of the result and the players weren’t directing their celebrations at them or their badge it is hard to see what the issue is.

Having won the trophy Jo Potter’s side are clearly to celebrate with it afterwards, and it would arguably look weirder to see a group of Rangers players jubilating around a Hearts logo anyway.

If having a badge walked on or celebrated by is such a sign of disrespect then it probably isn’t a great idea for them to be emblazoned on the floor around grounds, and if Rangers celebrating a trophy win at Tynecastle is that hurtful then maybe games should be held elsewhere.

Additionally, when the Hearts statement claims no explanation will be sufficient but they were intent on demanding one anyway it somewhat undercuts what is essentially a needless issue.

Not only that, the claim at the end of the Jam Tarts’ statement that it is “regrettable” for the matter to have taken the focus away from an opportunity to grow women’s football sounds ludicrous when nobody else would have noticed if they hadn’t made an issue out of it.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are tipped to face the “danger” of Philippe Clement leaving following a “dismal episode” he wasn’t impressed with.
