Rangers set for financial windfall as Fabrizio Romano shares Aston Villa transfer development
Rangers are set for a financial windfall amid transfer news concerning Rory Wilson at Aston Villa, according to the Daily Record.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday (24 March) that Wilson, who made the trip 290 miles south to Villa from Rangers in 2022, has been offered a new five-year deal by the Villans.
Villa will be in line for just £233,000 in compensation should the youngster leave this summer, whereas his valuation will be substantially higher should he extend his contract and continue developing at his current rate.
The Daily Record reported on its online edition on Sunday (24 March) that the development is “music to Rangers’ ears” as they “are due a percentage of any fee Villa bank for him before he turns 23 in 2029”.
Rory Wilson has bright future at Aston Villa
First and foremost, Rangers will be disappointed that an undoubted talent in Wilson is no longer around at the club.
If nothing else, though, the Gers could land a sizeable sum down the line if the forward departs Villa Park for a big sum.
Wilson has 36 goals in 42 games for club and country at age-grade level this term, with many predicting him to be a Villa first-teamer before long.
Rangers played as big a part as anyone in his development, so it is only fair that they are compensated for losing him at such a young age.
Given the sums of money young players are leaving for in the current day – Morgan Rogers joined Villa for a fee rising to £15million, for example – it could make for a nice bit of profit for the Gers.
For that to happen, Wilson needs to continue delivering on this early promise as he soon makes the step up to senior level.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement has shared an area of improvement that could settle the title race with Celtic.
