Rangers: ‘Incredible’ Lawrence Shankland takes game to new level amid Ibrox links

Kenny Miller has been amazed by Hearts poacher Lawrence Shankland, dubbing him “incredible” amid links with a January move to Rangers.

Having turned down a new contract at Tynecastle Park, it was reported in January, as per HITC, that the Gers were interested in signing the in-form goalscorer before opting for Wolves loanee Fabio Silva.

Since the winter transfer window, Shankland has only continued his strong form, going from strength to strength, with Miller suggesting that he has taken his game to “another level”.

Writing for the Sunday Mail (24 March, page 59), the Sky Sports pundit said: “I said previously that I felt Rangers should have tried to sign Shankland from Hearts in January and I stick by that.

“He has taken his game to another level now. He’s the league’s top scorer and is on course to hit over 30 for Steven Naismith’s team. That’s an incredible strike rate by anyone’s standards.”

Rangers miss out on Lawrence Shankland after January transfer links

The signing of Hearts’ Shankland would have been the final piece of the puzzle for Philippe Clement, who still seems to be missing an out-and-out forward to help blast Rangers to the Scottish Premiership.

Nothing against Cyriel Dessers, who has become a fan favourite since Clement was appointed in October and scored 12 league goals this season, but Shankland is levels above the Nigeria international.

In comparison, the Scotland international has 20 league goals so far, adding seven further goals and five assists in all competitions.

Of course, the Gers still have the opportunity to lift their second league title in the last decade, with just one point separating the Old Firm rivals after Rangers’ match against Dundee FC was postponed.

But Shankland could have made a major impact in Ibrox’s Europa League journey, having narrowly missed out on reaching the quarter-finals after a 1-0 loss to Benfica on Thursday 14 March, losing 3-2 on aggregate.

In other Rangers news, “everybody thinks” a Lawrence Shankland to Ibrox move is now almost certain.
