Rangers: Derek Ferguson reacts to Ianis Hagi Ibrox exit claims from ‘vocal’ father Gheorghe

Gheorghe Hagi has to let son Ianis make his own decisions on his Rangers future after the Romanian legend’s claims over an Ibrox exit, according to Derek Ferguson.

The former Gers midfielder speaks from experience as the father of a current player in Bologna captain Lewis, and accepts that sometimes he has to keep his feelings to himself as well.

Hagi junior, currently on loan in Spain at Alaves, admitted he wants to leave the Light Blues for a permanent stay in La Liga because it suits his play, just days after his famous father had branded claims he wanted out of Glasgow as “false”.

Ferguson isn’t convinced that the 25-year-old would be Philippe Clement’s kind of player anyway but says it is a decision that Ianis himself has to make, not Gheorghe.

He exclusively told Ibrox News: “I’m not too sure. The one thing is I know his dad is pretty vocal. Even with my boy I sometimes get told to ‘zip it’, because the best thing is to let your boy do his talking with his feet.

“He’s not played a lot of football over there. He is a talented player [but] I’m not so sure he would be Philippe Clement’s type, we don’t know that.

“I get it, he wants the best for his boy, but sometimes I think it’s best to take a wee back seat. It’s the boy’s career, he’s 25 now so he’s not a young boy, he’s a mature young man so let him make his decisions.

Rangers loanee set for permanent Ibrox exit in summer transfer window?

If Hagi is ready to depart then he will likely do so since the situation under Clement has moved on a long way from the Michael Beale set up he left behind.

With just 13 appearances in total for Rangers in over two years thanks to a serious knee injury before he left on loan he has long since been a regular at Ibrox through little fault of his own.

Father Gheorghe may have been trying to keep his options open but it sounds like Ianis has heart set on Spain so he could be one of a many who depart Glasgow this summer.

In other Rangers news, a senior Gers man has already agreed to leave the club.
