Hugh MacDonald shares Rangers fans admission after what they said about title race
Hugh MacDonald believes the Rangers fans will be “much happier” now than they were back in October when Philippe Clement took over at Ibrox.
Asked on PLZ Soccer who the happiest supporters will be in the Scottish Premiership on Thursday (21 March), The Herald journalist named the Gers fans alongside Kilmarnock and St Mirren.
He added that the Light Blues supporters will be feeling better about their prospects after previously conceding the title, having recently taken over Celtic at the top of the table for a few weeks.
“I think the Rangers fans will be much happier than they were in about October, November time when the league was basically conceded by most people,” said MacDonald. “Most Rangers fans were saying if we can steady the ship, [and now] they’ve got a championship to fight for.
“But I think Kilmarnock, St Mirren under Steven Robinson have continued good form and I think that would be just about it for really happy managers.”
Rangers in significantly better position under Philippe Clement
There is no doubt that the Rangers fans will be far happier under the guidance of Clement than they previously were during Michael Beale’s tenure.
The Gers boss has come in and more than steadied the ship, putting them firmly on course to lift the title this season.
While they sit one point behind Celtic, they do have a game in hand at their disposal following the postponed fixture against Dundee, meaning they can take control of proceedings again after the international break.
It feels very much as though a lot could be settled when the next Old Firm clash takes place on 7 April, where a serious stake for the title could be made.
Clement will have one eye on that fixture, but his primary focus over the next week or two will be trying to get some of his injured players back and the squad in good shape heading into the game against Hibernian on 30 March.
