Rangers should cash in on James Tavernier amid Steven Gerrard interest, Dujon Sterling is ready
Rangers should look to cash in on captain James Tavernier this summer amid interest from billionaire clubs in Saudi Arabia.
The skipper has once again been in fantastic form this season and managed 21 goals and eight assists in all competitions, with manager Philippe Clement has found a way to help him improve in a new and improved role too.
But there looks like there will be a decision to make in the summer transfer window after Saudi clubs were linked with a move for the 33-year-old, including Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.
Should Rangers sell James Tavernier?
In a normal world the Bears wouldn’t think twice about rejecting any interest such is the importance of Tavernier in recent years, and the fact he is the captain.
But there are things that absolutely must be considered, including his age and the fact the club could potentially get a decent-sized transfer fee for a player who is only going to start declining soon.
A big issue in recent times has been the lack of replacement for Tavernier with Adam Devine once tipped to be his replacement and now out on loan, which has meant that the veteran has become indispensable.
Should a big offer come in for Tavernier then the club would be crazy not to consider it, or even take it, because the squad is in much better shape now.
Dujon Sterling is ready to be a regular
That is especially obvious when you realise that Dujon Sterling has become a key member of Clement’s squad this season without even playing in his natural position.

Sterling joined the club as a full-back but has played regularly in midfield and even in attack at points this season because of how much the manager trusts him. That means that any money made from Tavernier’s sale can go towards other areas of the squad, because Sterling is already at Ibrox.
It’s rare that the club get the opportunity to move a player on for a big fee and at the right time, but this is one of those chances. If a decision needs to be made this summer, then it should be a pretty easy one to make.
In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has tipped the Ibrox club to fumble a “spectacular” summer signing.
