Rangers: ‘Quite incredible’ situation for Philippe Clement at Ibrox stuns Ferguson

Derek Ferguson is confident Rangers can go on to win more trophies this season despite a “quite incredible” injury situation at the club.

The pundit is “pretty positive” the Light Blues can add to the Viaplay Cup they secured in December almost entirely because of the presence of manager Philippe Clement.

He believes the Belgian has instilled a positivity in fans and players alike, so while the squad continues to be depleted by fitness problems he is convinced the leadership can still bring further success this term.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News Ferguson said: “With the manager we’ve got at the helm I think we can. The positivity that he brings, not just to the fanbase and guys like myself but the players, he instills this into them.

“So it’s going to be really difficult because the amount of injuries is quite incredible. He’s having to manoeuvre the squad and it’s getting thinner and thinner.

“It’s going to be difficult, but can we? Of course we can, and the reason that I’m pretty positive is because of the manager.”

Full faith in Philippe Clement to deliver more Rangers success

The attacking ranks have lost key contributors Danilo, Abdallah Sima and Oscar Cortes long-term this season, while the likes of Todd Cantwell, Tom Lawrence, Ryan Jack, Nico Raskin and Kieran Dowell have all missed notable time.

It isn’t a great stretch to assume Rangers would have crumbled under the circumstances prior to Clement’s arrival, but this is a much more formidable unit now and peripheral players have stepped in to help make a difference.

Dujon Sterling, who has himself recently picked up an injury, has been the embodiment of the adaptation to adversity as he has plugged gaps right through the line up and been impressive.

In other Rangers news, a senior member of the Ibrox first team has agreed to leave for a new club.
