Rangers: Ibrox development emerges after brand new announcement on Wednesday

David Edgar, host of the Heart & Hand podcast, has explained that Rangers will play all of their pre-season friendlies away from home due to work taking place at Ibrox.

This comes after Rangers announced they had been invited to play a friendly game against Manchester United at Murrayfield, the home of Scottish Rugby.

As a result, it was shared in the official announcement of the friendly that this could be the only opportunity to watch Rangers play in Scotland this summer.

Writing via his X account [20 March], Edgar shared: “If you’re wondering why Murrayfield, with work taking place on Ibrox our friendlies will be away games.”

Ibrox development forces change of location for Rangers

With Rangers now set to play the majority of their pre-season games outside of Scotland, unless any new friendlies are announced in their home country, it seems the team will be visiting several clubs across Europe in preparation for a new season.

With the current season yet to draw to a close and still plenty to play for, it’s slightly early to be discussing preparation plans for the following year, but given how competitive this season has proved to be, they know they will need to be at the top of their game over the summer.

It will, of course, be Philippe Clement’s first pre-season as the boss at Ibrox, which can often prove crucial to preparation as he will be able to experiment further with the players at his disposal without the pressure of the must-win environment.

A clash against Manchester United, regardless of the location, will provide a difficult challenge for Clement’s team as they prepare for another big season in the SPFL, given how close the title race has been this season.
