Rangers fans to rejoice as SFA release official statement

Rangers fans will be delighted as Crawford Allan is set to step down as the SFA’s Head of Refereeing at the end of the season.

The SFA released an official statement on 18 March which was relayed by the Scottish Sun confirming that move.

The Gers hierarchy, Philippe Clement and fans are likely to rejoice at the news of Allan’s departure from his role as the SFA’s head of refereeing.

A statement from the SFA said: “The Scottish FA can confirm that Crawford Allan will leave his position as Head of Referee Operations at the end of this season.

“Crawford’s departure to pursue new opportunities will effect a review of the existing role and remit to reflect the demands placed on it by the introduction and optimisation of VAR.

“This will coincide with a planned review of the operational priorities of the department based on the insights to date from VAR implementation, as well as feedback from Category One Match Officials and VAR operators, the Scottish FA’s Professional Game Board, the SPFL’s Competitions Working Group and the Independent Review Panel.

“The recruitment process will begin immediately to ensure an experienced replacement will be in place for the new season.”

Refereeing gaffes impacted Rangers

Firstly, Allan’s tenure has been marred by controversy and question marks over VAR calls, which have affected Gers and other clubs negatively.

His departure signals a potential fresh start for refereeing in Scottish football, offering hope for more consistency and fairness in officiating.

Additionally, Clement’s call for regular meetings between referees and managers to foster better understanding and communication indicates a desire for improvement, something that could be facilitated by a change in leadership.

Rangers fans will be celebrating

Fans have themselves been vocal in their dissatisfaction with refereeing decisions, particularly those involving VAR and Allan’s exit could be seen as a step towards addressing these concerns and restoring confidence in the officiating system.
