Kemar Roofe expected to leave Rangers at the end of the season, Ibrox exit for Ryan Jack too
Kemar Roofe will leave Rangers at the end of the season because the club can’t rely on him being available, says Derek Ferguson.
The striker’s contract is up in the summer but his injury record in recent seasons has been extensive so while he is a “talented” player he is tipped not to receive an extension.
Ferguson believes that both Roofe and midfielder Ryan Jack are good players but when the requirements are so high to play for either side of the Old Firm the Light Blues aren’t likely to be able to resign them if they can’t stay fit.
He exclusively told Ibrox News: “With guys like that, if you can’t rely on them it’s difficult to give them another contract.
“Again, he’s like Ryan Jack, he’s a talented player but you’ve got to be able to be fit enough to handle the rigours of playing for Rangers Football Club.
“At the moment they’re playing three games a week and they’ve got to be at their absolute best.
“Every time Rangers and Celtic play you need to be at your best because everybody wants to beat you. You know that as a player.
“So if you’re not at your 100% best physically you’re going to struggle.”

Double Rangers exit on the cards for Philippe Clement
If everyone is fit there is a decent argument to say that both Roofe and Jack make it into Rangers’ best XI.
Had Roofe been able to start more than six games across all competitions so far this season then the struggles of Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers earlier this term, and the lack of recognised number nines in the wake of a growing injury crisis midseason, wouldn’t have been anywhere near as big of a concern.
But those were the exact points when a Light Blues manager would need to be able to turn to the Jamaica international, who has 38 Gers goals in his time with the club, and he couldn’t be there.
It isn’t his fault his body has proven a barrier to him, but just as Clement wasn’t able to turn to Jack in an hour of need the manager will likely need to direct space on the wage bill to candidates who will be available when required.
In other Rangers news, Barry Ferguson says he would be “angry” if he was on the receiving end of what has happened to one Ibrox star.
