Aiden McGeady shares SPL title race momentum shift after what happened to Rangers
Aiden McGeady believes the momentum has now shifted back in favour of Celtic in their SPL title race with Rangers.
Speaking on the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast on Monday (18 March), the pundit said people may argue with that claim, but the fact that the Gers saw their game called off against Dundee and the Hoops play struggling Livingston next could hand them the edge.
He added that the Light Blues could now have to cram their rearranged fixture at Dens Park in between their matches against Hibernian and Celtic, meaning things could “change very quickly” in the title race.
“It’s funny how momentum can very quickly shift in the league and this city,” said McGeady. “You go two weeks and then, all of a sudden, momentum seems to be back in Celtic’s favour.
“People might argue with that, but with the game being called off and then Celtic have Livingston, who you would expect them to beat next week.
“Then you’ve got Rangers possibly trying to cram in a fixture between Hibs and possibly the Celtic game, things can change very quickly.”
Rangers and Celtic title race very much in the balance
There is no doubt that it was a blow for Rangers to have their game postponed against Dundee, but it’s probably unfair to say that’s put Celtic back in the driving seat.
While it’s always better to have the points on the board, the Gers will be able to retake top spot with their game in hand as long as they don’t slip up before that fixture comes around.
It does mean that they will have to play another midweek game, though, and after the injuries have piled up in recent months, that’s far from ideal for their threadbare squad.

But it still very much feels as though the title race will probably be decided when the two sides face each other in the Old Firm game on 7 April.
Philippe Clement will be hoping to get some more bodies back after the international break as he is certainly going to need to utilise his squad as they look to pick up more trophies this season.
