Ryan Jack expected to leave Rangers this season after latest Ibrox injury development

Ryan Jack is unlikely to be at Rangers after this season as his injury record will count against him when his contract expires, according to Derek Ferguson.

The former Gers midfielder admits the fitness issues are not the 32-year-old’s fault and that it must be “really frustrating” to so regularly be unable to feature since he can be one of the top men when fit.

But after Philippe Clement revealed he had been forced to change his plans for the starting XI at Hibs on 10 March because the Scotland international had picked up a new problem on the trip to Benfica Ferguson feels the writing is probably on the wall for Jack’s future with the club.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “I think so. Listen, it’s a shame when you see boys, through now fault of their own, just picking up injury after injury.

“He seems to have an issue. He’s come to a certain age where if you pick up injuries it takes a lot longer to heal.

“It must be really frustrating for Ryan Jack because if he’s fit and he’s healthy he’s one of our better players, one of our better performers.

“But you’ve got to look at the bigger picture as a manager and I think he’s big on the fitness, looking at players who can play 30-odd games a season at least.

“So unfortunately for Ryan, and as I say he is a good player, he just looks a bit injury-prone, which is a real shame but sometimes it happens.”

Injury issues to end Rangers career as contract expires

There is a reasonable argument that Jack would be a regular starter for the Light Blues if he was fit for long enough at a time, at least before the big deal to bring in Mohamed Diomande in January.

While talks have already been opened with John Lundstram as the English midfielder’s own deal ends this summer there hasn’t been an indication that the same has happened with Jack.

After just 11 SPFL appearances this term and only three in the Europa League, compared to Lundstram’s 27 in the league and ever-presence across eight games in the European competition, it unfortunately isn’t too hard to see why.
