Rangers: Philippe Clement anger set to grow as former referee lays out ruling after controversy
Rangers will still be outraged at the last-minute decision from referee Don Robertson to cancel their meeting with Dundee.
The two clubs were ready to go head-to-head in Scottish Premiership action at Dens Park on Sunday (17 March), only for the man in the middle to call it off due to a waterlogged pitch.
The decision, which came due to heavy rainfall in the area, infuriated Philippe Clement, primarily due to the fact it came very close to the scheduled kick-off time of 12pm.
But now the manager’s anger is set to grow even further, with former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher laying out the ruling on Sky Sports.
“The referee was checking if it [the pitch] was playable,” said Gallagher, as per Sky Sports. “The ball doesn’t bounce among other things – is it dangerous for the players? He said he didn’t feel like it was up to scratch.
“The process for the club would be, if there was a doubt, get the referee in early, or a local referee of that calibre. But the match referee, he went at 10.30am and called it off.
“If Dundee felt it wasn’t playable the night before, they could ask for an SPFL referee if the match referee can’t get there.”
Rangers allowed to be angry after Dens Park controversy
Rangers have every right to be angry at the handling of the match at Dens Park, with the away team having already arrived at the stadium when the game was postponed.
Many Gers fans would also have been on their way to Dundee, only to be left gutted at the decision to cancel the match.
There was an understandable immediate angry reaction from Clement afterwards, and the fallout looks certain to continue, with the match set to be played at another date.
Frustratingly for the Ibrox club, they do not play again until the end of March due to the upcoming international break.

Clement’s men host Hibernian at Ibrox, with that league clash followed by a huge league match with Celtic, also on home soil.
