Rangers: ‘Fuming’ Sky Sports claim made as SPFL launches investigation into Dundee postponement

Heart & Hand has reacted to the news that the SPFL is looking closely into the postponement of the Dundee versus Rangers game.

The match at Dens Park on Sunday (17 March) was called off late on due to a waterlogged pitch, which left Gers boss Philippe Clement angry.

It is the fourth home game Dundee have had called off this season, and Scottish football’s top governing body has now launched an investigation.

“The postponement of any match is disappointing given the impact it has on supporters,” an SPFL spokesperson said [18 March].

“This was particularly disappointing given the fact it was a live Sky Sports match and the proximity of the match to the split.

“The SPFL will be investigating the circumstances surrounding this postponement.”

In response to the statement, Heart & Hand – founded by David Edgar – said via X [18 March]: “Sky obviously fuming.”

Sky Sports pull coverage of Dundee v Rangers

This social media post may have been slightly tongue in cheek, but there is an element of truth to it.

Sky Sports pay a large amount to air Scottish Premiership games – albeit not as much as they should – so this was a disappointment for them.

With rival channels showing English FA Cup matches, Sky had no game to air in the lunchtime slot and that would not have gone down well.

Like Rangers, the broadcaster was no doubt upset at how late the decision came about, with no indication the game was under threat until a few hours before kick-off.

Again, like Rangers, Sky’s contingent – camera crew, presenters, pundits, audio staff, etc – would have likely been at Dens Park already.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement has overseen an excellent turnaround at Rangers.

It is telling that Sky are named in the statement, while the mention of the split also raises questions over when the game will be rescheduled.

The most likely outcome now is that it is slotted in in the midweek before the Celtic match, which is not great news for Rangers.

This is a mess that was out of Rangers’ hands, but one they now have to contend with going forward.
