Rangers: Danny Wilson issues Celtic transfer revelation
Former Rangers and Liverpool defender Danny Wilson has admitted that there was interest from rivals Celtic at one stage.
The five-cap Scotland international spent two stints at Ibrox, one from 2006-2010 and the other from 2015-2018.
Before he returned to Gers, he admits that agents were in talks and a move to Celtic Park was on the cards.
He told the Scottish Sun on 17 March: “There were conversations with agents. But the times they came at weren’t ideal. It wasn’t something I was interested in then.
“When I was leaving Hearts to go back to Rangers, I think there was Celtic interest. Would I have been prepared? You don’t know until you’re put in that position.”
Wilson would’ve burned bridges with Rangers fans
If Wilson had chosen to join Celtic instead of returning to Ibrox, it’s likely that many Rangers fans would have viewed him differently.
The fierce rivalry between the Old Firm sides runs deep in Scottish football, and players who switch sides often face backlash from fans of their former club.
Given Wilson’s roots at the club, where he was once highly rated and considered a prospect for the future, his decision to join Celtic would have been perceived as a betrayal by many supporters.
Even if Wilson had performed well for Celtic, his association with their arch-rivals could have tarnished his reputation among the Ibrox faithful.
Gers were the side that gave him his senior debut and the club he was at since the tender age of 15.

The emotional investment and loyalty of football fans to their clubs often transcend individual player performances, and joining the rival team could have significantly altered the way fans remembered and regarded Wilson.
