Rangers: Chris Jack shares brand new Kemar Roofe contract update at Ibrox
Chris Jack has claimed it is unlikely that there will be a new contract offer on the table for Kemar Roofe at Rangers after the striker expressed his desire to remain at Ibrox.
The Rangers Review journalist shared his view that the club cannot afford to offer a new deal given his injury issues and the risk involved as a result of that.
This comes after Roofe informed the media that he wanted to stay at Rangers beyond this season, but admitted the decision was ultimately up to Philippe Clement and the hierarchy.
Speaking on The Rangers Review [18 March], Jack shared: “For me, there’s not a new contract on the table. I just don’t think Rangers can afford to take the risk.
“Not just this season but in previous seasons, if you can guarantee the games from Kemar Roofe, you can guarantee a certain level of goals because we know what he can bring to the side, but you just can’t.
“I just don’t see how Rangers can afford to take a risk on him next season at all. I’d be surprised if he stayed on a one-year deal, you’re then looking at two. There’s just not the value for money.”
Could Kemar Roofe be handed a new contract at Rangers?
As Jack shared, there is no doubt that when Roofe is fit, he is capable of scoring goals. However, given his extensive list of injury issues suffered during his time in Glasgow, there is no guarantee that he will stay fit for any long period of time.
A new striker has also been one of the key transfer targets at Ibrox in recent transfer windows, and allowing Roofe to leave for free would make his wages available for redistribution into new investments.
The likes of Lawrence Shankland have been heavily linked with the move, and freeing up wages heading into the summer transfer window could allow Rangers the flexibility to pull off a deal which may otherwise prove difficult.

Contracts are likely to be a key talking point at Ibrox this summer, with Roofe’s the latest up for discussion while John Lundstram and Ryan Jack are among other first-team aces with deals expiring at the end of the current season.
