Rangers v Dundee: Michael Stewart takes personal jibe amid controversy
Michael Stewart got personal in a debate with Rory Loy regarding the postponement of Rangers v Dundee on 17 March.
Gers made their way to Dens Park and that’s where they found out the game had been called off after pitch inspections.
This led to differing opinions with blame attached to the clubs as well as the match officials.
“What would happen there in Michael’s hypothetical world if one club said they want the game to go ahead?” Loy posed on BBC Sportsound, via Football Scotland.
“Tony Docherty has said he doesn’t know enough about it and respects the decision of those who know what they’re talking about. But we wanted an opportunity for the game to go ahead. What would happen if one club is sitting saying they want to play and another says we don’t.”
Stewart responded: “Well it’s quite obvious, isn’t it? The game wouldn’t go ahead.”
Loy then added: “So Rangers make the decision and not Dundee?” to which the response from Stewart, a personal dig, was: “It’s an important point. Rory you’re deliberately trying to misrepresent what was being said. The point I’m trying to make – and I think anyone with a modicum of intelligence will pick this up – if two clubs want to play the game, in a marginal call, I don’t see a problem with the game going ahead. It’s as simple as that.”
Chaos unfolds after the postponement of Rangers v Dundee
Stewart and Loy presented contrasting perspectives on the debate surrounding the postponement of the Dundee vs. Rangers.
Stewart emphasised the importance of clubs taking accountability and potentially agreeing to play if both sides were willing, suggesting that in marginal cases, the game could proceed.
On the other hand, Loy stressed the role of officials and the need for decisions to be made by those with expertise in the matter.
Both viewpoints have merit, as clubs should indeed consider their willingness to proceed with matches, while officials must prioritise safety and make timely decisions.
However, the key issue is the timing of the decision-making process.
Regardless of which party ultimately holds responsibility, the decision should have been made earlier to avoid inconvenience for both teams and fans.

Clear communication and proactive decision-making are essential to ensure the smooth running of fixtures in such circumstances.
