Rangers: Abdallah Sima injury ‘Godsend’ on the cards v Celtic as Cyriel Dessers panned at Ibrox

Rangers having the injured Abdallah Sima back for the upcoming match with Celtic would be a “Godsend” for Philippe Clement.

That is according to Gary Keown, with the journalist desperate for Sima to come in for Cyriel Dessers in next month’s Old Firm.

After the 1-0 Europa League loss to Benfica, Keown believes Dessers cannot be trusted to start in such big matches.

“If he could return for the Celtic game, it would be a Godsend for Philippe Clement,” Keown wrote for the Scottish Mail on Sunday (page 92, 17 March) regarding Sima.

“So prolific and difficult to play against is the on-loan Brighton man that you could make a case for putting him at centre-forward.”

Will Abdallah Sima be fit for the Rangers v Celtic clash at Ibrox?

On-loan ace Sima has been out with a thigh injury since mid-January, having suffered the issue for Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The prognosis was that he would be absent for between two and three months, with Keown noting that Clement reported on Friday (15 March) that the situation hasn’t changed, meaning the attacker should be back to action soon.

He had been flying high under Clement before the injury, scoring plenty of important goals across various competitions.

Fellow forwards Danilo and Kemar Roofe have also been dealing with injuries this season, meaning Clement has turned to the likes of Cyriel Dessers and Fabio Silva.

The duo have certainly impressed, but perhaps it is Sima who fans will rely upon most when it comes to finding the back of the net when it really matters.
