Ian Crocker shares image of Dens Park pitch amid Dundee v Rangers worry

Sky Sports commentator Ian Crocker has shared a fresh image of the Dens Park pitch amid doubt surrounding whether Rangers will be able to play Dundee on Sunday.

Heavy rainfall has hit Tayside, leading to the Gers announcing the Scottish Premiership clash on 17 March is now subject to a pitch inspection at 9:15am

Crocker has uploaded an image of the waterlogged Dens Park pitch on his personal X account, with huge puddles beside the touchline and groundstaff trying to push away excess water.

Will Dundee v Rangers be called off?

It remains to be seen with a pitch inspection due in a matter of minutes.

As the game is going to be shown live on Sky Sports – with Crocker presumably commentating on it – there’s a good chance that they will press on with the game.

According to the Met Office, there’s only a 10 per cent chance of rain throughout the day in Dundee on 17 March, so the conditions are unlikely to worsen.

If the groundsmen can clear the excess water and the Dens Park pitch’s drainage is effective, this game should go ahead because kick-off is still almost three hours away.

It would be better from Rangers’ point of view to play this game to avoid fixture congestion after the upcoming international break, which starts after this weekend.

The Gers also lost to Benfica on Thursday night and got knocked out of the Europa League so they’ll want to bounce back from that with a win in the Scottish Premiership before a two-week break.

Let’s see what happens when the pitch inspection goes ahead.
