Rangers: Dens Park pitch inspection footage shared by Sky Sports as Dundee game in doubt

Sky Sports News presenter Chris Latchem does not expect the Dundee versus Rangers game to go ahead judging by footage showed by the broadcaster.

Dundee announced on Sunday morning (17 March) that a pitch inspection would take place at around 09:15am due to heavy rain overnight.

An announcement has not yet been made either way regarding the game at Dens Park, but the signs are not promising.

“Take a look at this,” Latchem said on Sky Sports News [17 March, 09:12am] in footage also shared on Twitter.

“We are hoping to bring you Dundee against Rangers. Oh dear, that ball does not bounce, does it? Tell you what, I don’t think you need [an inspection] because that ball is not running true.”

Rangers facing fixture backlog if Dundee game called off

Rangers could do with this match at Dens Park going ahead to avoid having an extra fixture to factor in after the international break, even if our European campaign is now over.

While this match is far from a gimme, the Gers would have been confident of picking up all three points to climb back above Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

If the game is postponed, it means that game in hand will hang over us for a while and the table will not tell a true story.

The early signs are not positive, but everyone will do what they can to get the game on. Fans’ safety will also be factored in, but plenty of Gers fans will already be well on their way to the ground.

On the flipside is that the Rangers players can now rest up with a second game in three days being avoided, but with all the preparation being in place, it is better it goes ahead than not.

Fingers crossed for a positive development in the next update.
