Rangers: ‘Outstanding’ Jack Butland disappointed by England snub, Chris Sutton comparison made

Rangers ace Jack Butland will be disappointed after he was not included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, according to Tam McManus.

The Three Lions manager has opted not to select the Ibrox number one for the upcoming matches against Brazil and Belgium.

Sam Johnstone (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton) and Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal) have been chosen by Southgate.

“I think he’ll be disappointed,” McManus said on The Football Show (15 March). “He’s been outstanding this season for Rangers, but we all know the snobbery that exists down south, looking up here and thinking ‘who is he playing against every week?’

“Unfortunately we’ve had that before with players, your Chris Suttons and Alan Thompsons, and guys from England that were doing well up here and never really got a sniff. So although I’m slightly surprised, I’m not because they’ll just guys pick guys from the Premier League.”

Is England boss Gareth Southgate wrong to overlook Rangers ace Jack Butland?

Butland has been producing several top displays between the sticks this season, not just in the Scottish Premiership but in the Europa League, Scottish Cup and League Cup.

He has been a key player for Philippe Clement, with the goalkeeper often coming to the rescue for the Gers this season.

An England call-up was seemingly on the cards due to his impressive displays in Scotland, but Three Lions manager Southgate has opted not to call up the Rangers number one for the nation’s upcoming friendly clashes.

Pickford has been England’s number one for quite some time, but many Gers fans may just question Southgate’s decision to include Palace’s Johnstone given their struggles this season.

And if Johnstone’s place is being questioned, then Ramsdale’s certainly is, with the goalkeeper playing second fiddle to David Raya at Arsenal this season.
