Cyriel Dessers axed as Borna Barisic gets rare start – Predicted Rangers XI v Dundee

Philippe Clement could be set to make some changes to his Rangers starting lineup for their SPFL clash with Dundee on Sunday at Dens Park.

The Bears fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Benfica at Ibrox on Thursday in a tired performance as the injury-hit squad crashed out of the Europa League.

But now the boss must decide whether to freshen things up or go again for the trip to Dundee with an international break to come after the game, with some players’ performances struggling.

In goal Jack Butland will look to put the disappointment of being snubbed by England behind him by adding to his 17 clean sheets this season when he starts in goal.

In defence captain James Tavernier will continue at right-back with Dujon Sterling still unavailable, while Connor Goldson and John Souttar are likely to start at centre-back once again also amid their good form together.

Exit-linked Borna Barisic to start for Rangers vs Dundee?

Ridvan Yilmaz has been the first choice left-back since Clement’s arrival at the club, but he has begun to look more leggy in recent games and that could provide the chance for exit-linked Borna Barisic to get the nod from the start.

In midfield Clement doesn’t have too many options right now so John Lundstram and Mohammed Diomande will start again, with Tom Lawrence likely to get the nod in the number ten position once again.

Scott Wright got the nod in midweek on the right wing but failed to make an impact, and with both Rabbi Matondo and Todd Cantwell returning from injury they should start on opposite flanks.

Ross McCausland is still a doubt despite being named on the bench for the Benfica clash, with Clement admitting he was only an option if the game had gone to extra-time.

That leaves a decision between Fabio Silva and Cyriel Dessers in the number nine role, with the Portuguese loanee more likely to get the nod with his energy and instinct in front of goal.
