Rangers transfer news as Steven Gerrard eyes James Tavernier reunion at Al-Ettfaq
Rangers captain James Tavernier remains a transfer target for teams in the Saudi Pro League including Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq, according to HITC.
The outlet reported on its website on Thursday (14 March) that Gerrard remains keen to on luring the Englishman to the Middle East this summer, having attempted to sign him last year, but the former Gers boss isn’t alone.
Tavernier has perked the interest of a number of Saudi Pro League sides ahead of the summer transfer window, especially among the multiple billionaire PIF-owned teams as he looks to lift his second Scottish Premiership title at Ibrox.
Will Rangers sell James Tavernier to the Saudi Pro League and Steven Gerrard in the transfer window?
There are few players more important to Philippe Clement’s side at Ibrox currently than Tavernier as the 32-year-old right-back has become the leader in the Gers’ changing room as they push for a domestic treble.
While some have previously branded the defender a serial loser given his lack of silverware since he arrived in Glasgow, he has transformed that tag in the last few months since Clement took over from Michael Beale.
Whether or not Tavernier will finally get his hands on a second Premiership title this season remains to be seen, but as he gets older, the riches of the Saudi Pro League and a reunion with Gerrard could be enticing for the 32-year-old.

Hopefully, Rangers will be able to convince their skipper that his future lies at Ibrox as he has shown with his performances this season that he is more than capable of being a force in the Premiership and Europe for the next few years.
This could be one to keep an eye on between now and the end of the season, but while Gerrard remains in charge in Saudi Arabia these links won’t be going anywhere.
