Rangers: Sky Sports pundit shares Philippe Clement exit admission at Ibrox

Kenny Miller believes it could be “very tough” for Rangers to keep hold of Philippe Clement long term after the impact he’s had at Ibrox.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Wednesday (13 March), the Sky Sports pundit agreed with one caller that it would be difficult to fend off any potential suitors if the Gers were to win the treble this season, but that he is confident the Belgian will still be in the dugout for the next campaign.

He admitted that there are probably clubs keeping an eye on the job the Light Blues boss is currently doing after already securing the Viaplay Cup and having his side well-placed to lift more trophies before the season comes to a close.

“I would tend to agree that if those circumstances were to unfold, then I think it would be very tough to keep him long term,” said Sky Sports pundit Miller. “I don’t think it’ll be tough to keep him next season. I think he’s only through the door a matter of months, it’ll be eight or nine months at the end of the season that he’ll have been in the door.

“If he does go on to achieve that, there’s no doubt there will be people admiring the job he’s doing at this moment in time. It’s like players, when you’re performing well, you’re going to draw interest from other teams.

“It’s the same for managers and, particularly, managers who come in and make an impact, make people better, carry themselves in the way he does and communicate in the language that he is. If you can then couple with that putting trophies in the cabinet, then there’s no doubt you’re going to be catching the higher teams.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if there is people looking at the job he’s doing right now and keeping an eye on it. I think for Rangers fans, they can maybe rest easy, I’m sure he’ll be in the dugout come the start of next season.”

Could Philippe Clement leave Rangers?

It would certainly be a surprise if Clement were to leave Rangers at the end of the season after he only joined the club in October and is working towards a project.

He’s also enjoyed great success in such a short space of time at Ibrox and there is surely no doubt that he’ll want to pick up more silverware before even thinking about making an exit.

It probably all depends on who comes calling as Premier League clubs, particularly ones with healthy bank balances and a place in Europe, are often hard for managers to resist.

But it still early days for the Belgian in Glasgow and there shouldn’t be too many worries about him jumping ship already.

In some ways, it can be seen as a positive that these discussions are being had because it’s a clear indication of the massive progress the Gers have made since he arrived at Ibrox.
