Rangers: Jack Butland left out of England squad by Gareth Southgate
Jack Butland has been left out of the England squad for the upcoming international break despite his sensational form for Rangers.
The goalkeeper was expected to be named as one of three goalkeepers in the squad for friendly games against Brazil and Belgium this month.
However Gareth Southgate instead opted for Jordan Pickford, Sam Johnstone and Aaron Ramsdale as his options and Butland will instead remain in Glasgow in a surprising development.
England’s loss is Rangers gain
Southgate has an abundance of top quality goalkeeper options at his disposal, but Butland is absolutely in the conversation and it’s crazy that he has been left out.
Pickford is the undeniable number one and that is fair enough considering his performances for Southgate and England at major competitions, while Sam Johnstone is playing regularly for Crystal Palace.
But while Ramsdale is a great goalkeeper in his own right he simply isn’t playing at all for Arsenal, and Butland is playing every game for Rangers and at a phenomenal level both domestically and in Europe.

Now instead the player will get to train with Philippe Clement’s squad and potentially get a small break ahead of the business end of the season.
That can only be a good thing for Rangers, and while Butland will no doubt be disappointed hopefully he can channel that correctly towards winning silverware at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, an official offer is expected “in days” for one senior Ibrox star.
