Rangers confirmed XI v Benfica: Scott Wright starts as Philippe Clement makes Todd Cantwell call

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has made one change to his Light Blues starting XI for their Europa League clash with Benfica on Thursday 14 March.

With the tie evenly poised at 2-2 following the first leg after goals from Dujon Sterling and Tom Lawrence, the Belgian has opted to start Scott Wright in place of the injured Sterling on the right wing in his only change.

Todd Cantwell has returned to the matchday squad having recovered from his latest injury setback but is only fit enough to make the bench alongside Ross McCausland who had been an injury doubt for Thursday’s clash at Ibrox.

Will Rangers and Philippe Clement book their place in the Europa League quarter-finals?

Rangers have been seriously impressive since Clement arrived at Ibrox and the Belgian will be hoping to carve out a little bit more history at Ibrox on Thursday night by helping the Gers book their place in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Injuries have more than played their part in Glasgow in recent weeks, with too many players stuck to the treatment table as the Light Blues continue to fight for not only a domestic treble but a European title as well.

Having Cantwell back and available for selection is a huge boost, but the Gers are still missing the likes of Danilo, Oscar Cortes, Kieran Dowell and Sterling alongside many others. Most teams wouldn’t cope with that many absentees.

Hopefully, Rangers will find a way to get the job done in front of a packed Ibrox crowd on Thursday night. It won’t be easy, but they have shown that they can go toe to toe with Benfica already, now they just have to go one step further.
