Rangers: Four Lads Had A Dream drool over Jack Butland as Sky Sports footage emerges
Four Lads Had A Dream have called for Jack Butland to earn a call up to the England squad after his “incredible” form for Rangers this season.
The former Manchester United stopper moved to Ibrox on a free transfer last summer and has been in sensational form, emerging as the best goalkeeper in the SPFL.
That form has seen him tipped to earn a recall to Gareth Southgate’s England squad and Four Lads took to their personal Twitter account (13 March) to praise his form after a debate on Sky Sports News suggested he could miss out due to the level of the league.
“Butland has been incredible this season,” they wrote.
“Just a wee peak at his performance in Portugal last week vs Benfica shows his form. Whilst I appreciate people may downplay our league, it doesn’t stop a GK making top saves and he’s done it regularly.
“Butland for England!”
Jack Butland for England after stunning Rangers form
It seems quite clear to anyone with eyes that Jordan Pickford is the number one goalkeeper for England and Gareth Southgate, and that is fair enough based on his performances over the years.
However, the race to be his understudy seems wide open with Nick Pope, Dean Henderson, Sam Johnstone, Aaron Ramsdale and Butland all competing to be part of the squad for this summer’s European Championships.
All of the above had had opportunities under Southgate in recent times, but Butland found himself frozen out after a lack of game time. He has now found his form and quality though, and deserves a call-up.
Arguments about his level of competition are somewhat justified and fair, but it can’t be ignored that Rangers also play in Europe on a regular basis which is something only Ramsdale can say of the other options – and he doesn’t even play.
With his level of performance he deserves a chance to stake his claim for the role in the squad.
