Rangers: Alan Brazil, AP McCoy gang up on Ally McCoist over ‘boring’ Celtic win streak

Alan Brazil claims the SPFL title race is “over” in Celtic’s favour after AP McCoy claimed it was “boring” to keep beating Rangers.

The talkSPORT presenter and the former champion jockey both had digs at Ally McCoist live on the station (13 March) as they argued the Hoops’ case after the losing the league lead to the Light Blues.

Since Philippe Clement’s arrival at Ibrox a seven point deficit at the top of the table has been turned into a two-point advantage, although the Gers have only won two Old Firm derbies in the Scottish Premiership across the past three seasons.

After McCoy had dismissed the turnaround this term by claiming (9.45am), “It was getting a bit boring beating Rangers all the time”, McCoist asked his opposite number, “have you given up in the league?”

“No, no, no the league’s over,” replied Brazil. “I’ve told you before, the league’s over. We’ll beat you at Ibrox and at Parkhead.”

Rangers reverse title race with Celtic ahead of April Ibrox clash

Celtic fans obviously have to put a brave face on giving up their sizeable advantage in the league since the departure of Michael Beale, with Brendan Rodgers now the man under more pressure.

But they are far from out of it despite the major revival under Clement, and the Belgian still has to get an Old Firm win.

It would clearly be a major disappointment to miss out on a first SPFL title in three seasons from this position, but with one trophy already secured and extensive injury issues as the club continues to fight on three further fronts it can’t be guaranteed.

There is confidence around Ibrox at the moment, despite the surprise defeat to Motherwell in the most recent league game, but if they keep losing players at the current rate it remains to be seen how long they can keep up their challenge in all directions.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement has turned things around at Rangers

Rangers are into the Scottish Cup semi finals against Hearts and have a second leg in the Europa League last 16 against Benfica after a 2-2 draw in Lisbon.

Dujon Sterling wants four trophies, but however many the club finish with this season it has been a huge improvement from the opening months of the season.

In other Rangers news, an exit deal for a senior Ibrox ace is wanted before the season’s end.
