Philippe Clement shares whether Todd Cantwell will play in Rangers showdown v Benfica
Philippe Clement has revealed that Todd Cantwell is ready to play ahead of the Rangers game against Benfica on Thursday (14 March).
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday (13 March), the Gers boss said the 26-year-old can play a “number of minutes” but that he isn’t ready to play 90 minutes.
He added that the English attacking midfielder has been good in training and that he’s happy to have him back in the fold after returning from a hamstring injury ahead of the Europa League second-leg tie at Ibrox.
Todd Cantwell return provides boost for Rangers against Benfica
It will certainly provide everyone associated with Rangers a boost if Cantwell does make his return from injury in the huge clash against Benfica.
The attacking midfielder was in great form before he was struck down through injury, but the Gers have performed pretty well in his absence.
His return will take some of the pressure off the other attacking players, who have played a lot of minutes recently due to the ongoing injury crisis at Ibrox.
Whether or not the Englishman will start against the Portuguese champions is anyone’s guess, but it’s likely he will at least come off the bench.
Clement will have full confidence that his side can pick up what would be a fantastic win to secure their place in the quarter-finals after the 2-2 draw in the first leg on 7 March.
