Rangers: Four Lads react as permanent Fabio Silva transfer mooted from Wolves at Ibrox

Stevie Clifford, host of the Four Lads Had a Dream podcast, has insisted Rangers cannot afford to sign Fabio Silva on a permanent transfer following his loan spell.

Clifford insisted that the club would not be able to fork out on a permanent deal, and suggested he is in the same position as Abdallah Sima in terms of extending his loan.

This has come shortly after the on-loan Wolves striker confessed his desire to remain at Ibrox beyond the summer after enjoying his time in Glasgow since arriving in January.

Speaking to The Rangers Review [12 March], Clifford shared: “I think now that he’s actually hitting form he’s becoming a weapon for us from the left-hand side.

“Would I like to see him stay? Permanently, I don’t think so. I don’t think we can afford that kind of transfer fee. I don’t think it’s shocking to say that.

“Could he maybe stay on another loan? It’s a bit like Sima. We’ll probably want to see both of them stay.”

Could Fabio Silva join Rangers permanently?

Clifford is right, given Silva joined Wolves for around £35million in 2020, the Premier League outfit will be reluctant to make a substantial loss on their investment, meaning any move to Ibrox would cost close to, or beyond that price.

That is something Rangers simply can’t afford regardless of their potential success both domestically and in Europe this season, with Silva likely to play a key part in any further silverware they can bring home.

After his impressive performances of late, including one which earned him high praise after the 2-2 Europa League draw with his former club Benfica in Lisbon, speculation has been rife as to whether he will remain in Glasgow beyond his loan spell.

The same has been the case with Abdallah Sima, whose impressive performances have not gone unnoticed by the Rangers hierarchy, and who has, similarly to Silva, expressed his desire for a long-term stay at Ibrox.
