Hibernian ace Martin Boyle sends message to Rangers medical staff after Easter Road incident

Hibernian attacker Martin Boyle has shared an injury update after sustaining a concussion against Rangers.

The Australia international was taken off on a stretcher following an awkward landing in the first half of the Scottish Cup clash on Sunday (10 March).

The Gers won the quarter-final match at Easter Road 2-0, with John Lundstram and Fabio Silva on the scoresheet.

“Would like to thank everyone for the messages of support, appreciate it a lot!” Boyle wrote on Instagram (11 March). “Big thanks to the Hibs & Rangers medical staff for looking after me on the pitch after the incident.

“Thank you to the Royal Infirmary Hospital and the team for looking after me when I arrived. Home now to recover with the family.”

Boyle was unfortunately forced off in the meeting with Rangers, having suffered a nasty fall while challenging for a high ball with opponent John Souttar.

Fortunately, however, it was just a concussion, with the Hibs star now back at home after spending time in the hospital in the capital.

Perhaps the scoreline may have been different had the Easter Road favourite stayed on the pitch, although the hosts didn’t take long to shoot themselves in the foot with red cards to both Jordan Obita and Nathan Moriah-Welsh.

Boyle wasn’t the only casualty in Edinburgh, with Philippe Clement losing both Dujon Sterling and Ross McCausland to injury.

The pair are now doubtful ahead of Benfica’s visit to Ibrox on Thursday (14 March), with the two clubs set to meet in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 clash.

All of Clement’s focus will now be on that massive night under the lights, with the pair having played out a 2-2 draw in last week’s first leg encounter.
