Rangers urged to take John Lundstram action after what he did against Hibernian

Alan Hutton insists it is a no-brainer for Rangers to award John Lundstram a new contract after his starring role against Hibernian.

Lundstram has been out of the Gers’ best players this season but is due to be out of contract at Ibrox at the end of the campaign.

The midfielder opened the scoring for Rangers in their 2-0 Scottish Cup win at Hibernian and assisted the other goal for Fabio Silva.

Speaking on Viaplay’s live coverage of the game [10 March, 7:47pm], pundit Marvin Bartley said: “Look at the celebration there.

“He’s out of contract in the summer. I think he’s letting everyone know he wants to stay at this football club.”

When asked if tying Lundstram down is now a “priority”, BBC Sport pundit Hutton replied: “For me right now, yes, absolutely.

“Since the new manager has come in, he’s showed everyone what he’s capable of.

“He’s taken his game to the next level and is probably one the first names on the teamsheet; he shows it every week, so yeah, definitely.”

John Lundstram yet to sign new Rangers contract

Lundstram has been in great form for Rangers this season and it seems pretty crazy that he has not already agreed fresh terms.

Should the former Sheffield United ace move on in the summer, that will be an extra few million the Gers will have to shell out on a replacement.

As he showed against Hibernian, in which he was clearly the best player on the pitch, Lundstram is still a hugely important player.

There has been talk of a contract being in the works, but with a little over three months of the season to go, it should be signed by now.

Lundstram has made it clear in the past he would like to stay, so fingers crossed that stance has not changed in recent weeks.

Before the Gers can think about adding to their squad in the summer, it is important that key men such as Lundstram are tied down to fresh terms.
