Rangers: Nick Montgomery ‘not a happy bunny’ after what BBC journalist noticed v Hibernian

Hibernian manager Nick Montgomery was “not a happy bunny” after Rangers opened the scoring in their match at Easter Road.

That is according to BBC Sport journalist Kheredine Idessane, who shared the verdict after John Lundstram scored in the Scottish Cup quarter-final clash on Sunday (10 March).

The midfielder followed up James Tavernier’s missed penalty in the 23rd minute to put the visitors 1-0 up, with Fabio Silva adding a second in the 83rd minute to secure a 2-0 win.

“Nick Montgomery is not a happy bunny at all,” Idessane wrote for BBC Sport. “Not necessarily because his side is a goal down, although that won’t amuse him particularly.

“It’s more the fact that he, and the entire Hibs bench, feel Martin Boyle was fouled at the start of the move that led to the Rangers penalty. The incident happened right in front of me, and it looked to me like Boyle was indeed impeded by Mohamed Diomande.

“Even with the penalty saved, Hibs still find themselves behind, so the home side aren’t having the rub of the green as it stands.”

Should Nick Montgomery be angry at what happened versus Rangers?

The Hibs manager was clearly outraged at the build-up to the opening goal, with Montgomery and his staff showing their frustrations on the touchline at Easter Road.

Opposing manager Philippe Clement did not pay too much attention, with the visiting boss instead focusing on his own players.

The Belgian will be happy following the win and clean sheet on the road, with a Scottish Cup semi-final place now secured.

But Clement will be gutted after seeing both Dujon Sterling and Ross McCausland go off with injuries, with the latter having replaced the former in the first half.

The injuries come at a busy time, with Portuguese giants Benfica visiting Ibrox on Thursday (14 March) for a huge European tie under the lights.

Sterling impressed in the first leg, with the versatile ace scoring as the Gers secured a 2-2 Europa League round of 16 draw in Portugal last Thursday (7 March).
