Rangers: Neil Lennon raves about what he has seen from ‘manager’s dream’ Dujon Sterling

Dujon Sterling has been a “manager’s dream” for Philippe Clement at Rangers with his ability and his attitude, according to Neil Lennon.

The former Celtic and Hibs boss has been “really impressed” by the Englishman, who arrived as a defender but has now shone in multiple positions at Ibrox, admitting live on Viaplay Sports on 10 March that the ex-Chelsea man has been a “fantastic” signing.

Sterling scored his first goal in senior football in the 2-2 draw at Benfica on Thursday (7 March), as he filled in for attacking injuries, but appeared to pick up a hamstring issue in the subsequent 2-0 win at Hibs in the cup, but not before winning a penalty that particularly upset Michael Stewart.

Alan Hutton said prior to kick off that the 24-year-old had been “outstanding” wherever he has featured for the Light Blues, after appearances at full-back, in central midfield or as a winger.

Lennon then said (7.18pm): “He’s a manager’s dream. I have to say every time I’ve watched Dujon this season I’ve been really impressed, whether it be in the centre of midfield, full-back, out wide, he’s got a great temperament.

“You can see by the interview how humble he is and how hungry he is. I think he’s been a fantastic signing for Rangers, so consistent, really strong, and technically excellent.”

Ex-Celtic manager blown away by Rangers star

It is a measure of the major development from Sterling in recent months that his apparent addition to the ever-growing injury list is such a concern.

With so many players out already, especially in attacking areas, the versatility he has shown since his summer free transfer signing has proven invaluable.

He has already helped secure one trophy this season after delivering a man of the match performance in the Viaplay Cup final after Jose Cifuentes was suspended at a time when Nico Raskin and Ryan Jack were out injured.

But he has designs on three more pieces of silverware as he has explained the difference under Clement as a permanent Rangers addition after years caught up in the loan cycle at Stamford Bridge.

Sterling made just two senior appearances for the London giants while spending time on loan at Coventry City, Wigan Athletic, Blackpool and Stoke City, but after a slow start to life in Scotland he has come on fast since and is now drawing all sorts of plaudits.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart has claimed the club face a huge expense to replace a “vital” part of their side that is in line to leave.
