Rangers injury news: Ross McCausland and Dujon Sterling updates emerge at Ibrox

Dujon Sterling and Ross McCausland are now injury doubts ahead of Rangers’ Europa League clash with Benfica after limping off against Hibernian on 10 March, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported in its print edition [11 March, page 43] that both key players limped off after tough challenges in the 2-0 win which was marred by several awful fouls.

Jordan Obita and Nathan Moriah-Welsh were sent off, with the red cards coming within three minutes of each other following a dangerous tackle.

Speaking after the game, Philippe Clement shared: “I’m not happy, of course, that Dujon and Ross had to come off. It’s not a good thing. We are going to see in the next couple of days if they are going to be available for Thursday or not.”

Will Rangers stars Ross McCausland and Dujon Sterling play v Benfica?

With both key Rangers players limping off against Hibs, thanks in large part to their opponents’ rough tackles throughout the game, everybody at Ibrox will have their fingers crossed that they can feature in the crucial game against Benfica.

The game against Hibs being completely overshadowed by shocking tackles and red cards has left the Ibrox club in a difficult position both on and off the pitch to deal with the issues following the game, with the manager fuming.

Sterling was especially impressive during the 2-2 draw in Lisbon as he scored Rangers’ second goal, so he will be a particularly big miss should he not return to full fitness before the clash at Ibrox on 14 March.

McCausland, meanwhile, was left on the bench for the game in Lisbon, but if Sterling was to miss out, he would be the most likely candidate to replace him. Should both miss the game through injury, Clement will be left short of options on the right-hand side.
