Fabio Silva drops ‘100%’ hint over Rangers future after Hibernian victory

Fabio Silva has dropped a hint on his future at Ibrox, having joined Rangers from Wolves on a six-month loan in December.

The 21-year-old netted the Gers’ second in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup, helping to secure a 2-0 victory over Hibernian on Sunday 10 March.

With four goals in 13 appearances since arriving at Ibrox, Silva looks to be enjoying life in Scotland and is open to the idea of remaining at the club past the end of the season.

Speaking via BBC Sport on Monday (11 March), he said: “I’m loving being here. I don’t control these things 100%. It’s not 100% my decision to stay, if it was up to me then maybe yes. But I could say ‘yes’ and then you have a lot of things still to be taken care of.

“Perhaps I have the least input into whether I stay here but we have two months to enjoy the football, to win titles and I think after that, if we win trophies and everything goes well, Rangers and I will do everything for me to stay.

“When you see me playing with a smile on my face, I think everything’s going the right way. I enjoy playing here, playing for the fans, the staff, my teammates.”

Could Fabio Silva sign a permanent deal at Rangers?

Silva has experienced a very tough career over the last few seasons, struggling to settle in anywhere after Wolves signed the forward from Porto for a club-record fee of £35.6million in 2020. [BBC Sport]

He spent the whole of last season out on loan, first joining Anderlecht in July 2022 where he scored 11 goals in 32 appearances before moving to PSV Eindhoven, netting five goals in 19 matches.

The youngster has failed to make the desired impact at Molineux Stadium, not living up to the high expectations fans had when the club signed him in 2020.

Rangers
Fabio Silva joined Rangers on loan from Wolves in January.

But watching him play at Ibrox under Philippe Clement, Silva looks to have rediscovered his love for the game, which could be seen in his reaction after scoring against Hibernian.

The player, who is capable of deputising on the left wing or up front, offers Clement some much-needed coverage in attack, with Abdallah Sima, Dessers, Oscar Cortes and Todd Cantwell all currently injured.
