Rangers: Sir Kenny Dalglish blown away by ‘impressive’ Mohamed Diomande in new Ibrox verdict

Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande has blown away Sir Kenny Dalglish with his “impressive displays” since arriving at Ibrox in January.

The Ivorian midfielder joined Philippe Clement’s side on an initial loan deal from Nordsjaelland and has hit the ground running in Glasgow, scoring twice in his first six Premiership matches and picking up an assist against Benfica.

Rangers are expected to make the 22-year-old’s stay permanent in the summer and Dalglish has admitted that Diomande has caught his eye alongside the likes of John Lundstram and Dujon Sterling.

Writing in The Sunday Post (10 March, back page of pull-out) he said: “I really like the look of Mohamed Diomande. He has settled very quickly and put in some impressive displays in the middle of the park.

“Beside him, John Lundstram, Dujon Sterling and Ridvan Yilmaz have also caught the eye. Hibs of course, will have a plan to stop the Gers today and also impose themselves in the final third of the pitch. It makes for a really good contest and I think the Gers may well just sneak it.”

Will Rangers sign Mohamed Diomande permanently in the summer transfer window?

Before the January transfer window, supporters and pundits were questioning whether or not Rangers’ midfield was strong enough for the Light Blues to close the gap to Celtic and lift the Premiership title this term.

Poor performances and injuries from the likes of Nicolas Raskin and Ryan Jack had fans on the edge of their seats at times, but the introduction of Diomande has changed that entirely with his fantastic start in Light Blue.

Kenny Dalglish has been impressed by Rangers and Philippe Clement.

The Ivorian winger can do it all both on the ball and out of possession with an excellent range of passing and a drive that will be invaluable to Clement. If the Gers win more silverware this season, a large part of it will be down to him.

Rangers’ only issue will be keeping the 22-year-old at Ibrox for a considerable length of time. Clement has already indicated that he expects Diomande to move on for a big fee in the future and it currently seems hard to argue.
