Rangers: Ibrox verdict as Neil Warnock quits Aberdeen at Pittodrie

A trip to Ibrox to take on Rangers was the only reason Neil Warnock took on the Aberdeen job, joked David Edgar.

The verdict comes after Warnock stepped down as Dons manager on Saturday (9 March), immediately after guiding his club to a win over Kilmarnock.

Aberdeen clinched a spot in the Scottish Cup semi-final with the 3-1 quarter-final victory against Killie at Pittodrie.

Posting on X after the announcement from Aberdeen, Edgar wrote: “He only wanted a night at Ibrox really eh?”

Neil Warnock leaves Aberdeen having tasted defeat versus Rangers at Ibrox

Warnock had a tough time at Aberdeen, with his short tenure beginning with a very tricky trip to Ibrox early last month.

Philippe Clement’s side won that Scottish Premiership clash 2-1, with that result seemingly setting the tone for Warnock in Scotland.

The experienced manager failed to win any of his six league matches in charge, but in more positive news he did win both of his Scottish Cup matches in the dugout.

The Dons are flying high in the competition, with Warnock overseeing wins against Kilmarnock and Bonnyrigg Rose during his 33 days in charge.

While they are going strong in the Scottish Cup, Aberdeen are struggling in tenth place in the Scottish Premiership.

The situation is very messy at Pittodrie, but it is one that will not worry Clement too much, with the Rangers manager needing to focus on his own club and their immediate future, in the Scottish Cup, league and Europa League.
