Rangers: Chris Sutton hits out at Celtic conspiracies in new title verdict

Chris Sutton has hit out at Celtic “conspiracy theorists” as Rangers continue to push for the Scottish Premiership title this season.

The Hoops have been dominant in Scotland over the last few years, but with the league title now under threat, the Old Firm rivals are at war once again.

With just a two-point gap at the top of the table, Sutton believes that Celtic are the only ones at fault for letting top spot slip into the hands of Philippe Clement’s Rangers side, who have been sensational.

Writing for Daily Record on Friday (9 March), he said: “The refs were a handy getout at the weekend but it’s not John Beaton’s fault Celtic have dropped 19 points this season.

“It’s not the officials to blame for allowing a Rangers team that has lost five matches to sit at the top of the table. [Don] Robertson didn’t leave this squad ill-equipped for Europe and now short of bodies for a title race.

“[Brendan] Rodgers and Celtic can try to create a siege mentality or even pander to the conspiracy theorists. But if they don’t pull it out of the bag in the remaining nine games, they’ll only have themselves to blame.”

Can Rangers beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title?

Before Clement arrived at Ibrox in October, any chance of winning the league looked lost, and so did Michael Beale.

However, the turnaround under the Belgian has been incredible to witness, with the Gers losing just two matches since his appointment, a 2-1 defeat to Celtic and a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell.

Conspiracy theorists can try to explain their team’s downfall, but they will all know deep down that Rangers have found a new gear and gone full-turbo under the new manager.

Philippe Clement has turned things around at Rangers

Though Rangers still have five league losses to their name this season, and Celtic only three, Rodgers’ side have drawn far too many matches, leaving first place wide open.

Clement’s side shows no signs of slowing down either. Like any team, they experienced a slip-up to Motherwell on Saturday 2 March, which could have been an awful result if not for Hearts turning up against the Hoops and claiming a 2-0 win.
