Rangers: Barry Ferguson makes Mohammed Diomande transfer admission live on air
Barry Ferguson has urged Rangers to complete a permanent move for Mohamed Diomande during the summer transfer window, after an impressive start to his loan spell.
The 22-year-old midfielder has impressed since arriving at Ibrox on loan during the January transfer window, scoring twice in six Scottish Premiership appearances and picking up an assist in the Gers’ draw with Benfica.
Former Gers’ captain Ferguson believes the Light Blues will pay around £4million to make his stay in Glasgow permanent while also admitting he expects Philippe Clement’s side to earn a “few bob” when they sell him.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (8 March, 11:30) he said: “He’s settled in really quickly, sometimes you need a bit of time to settle in but listen, he can get about the pitch, he’s got a goal in him, he’s good on the ball and he breaks play up.
“He’s got all the attributes I think to be a really top player. It suits Rangers’ model, I think the fee is around about the £4million mark. For me, they’ve got to go and do that, I think that is the case that they’re going to sign him.
“He’s one that further down the line if he keeps playing and improving the way that he is, he’s one Rangers could make a few bob off.”
Will Rangers sign Mohammed Diomande permanently in the summer transfer window?
It has been pretty clear since Diomande arrived at Ibrox that he will be a permanent addition when the summer rolls around, with Rangers signing him on loan initially to delay having to pay the hefty transfer fee until the end of the season.
Clement hasn’t made too many signings during his brief tenure in Glasgow, but the Ivorian midfielder may well be the pick of the bunch as he has taken to the Scottish game like a duck to water in a variety of roles.
Some have questioned the lack of depth in the Gers midfield at times this season, especially with the poor performances of Nicolas Raskin and injuries to Ryan Jack, but Diomande has proved to be the answer to most of those problems.
Hopefully, the Light Blues will make the 22-year-old sign on the dotted line permanently as soon as possible and in a couple of years he could return a much bigger fee than the £4million they’ve been tipped to spend.
