Tam McManus reacts to Rangers 2-2 draw v Benfica, predicts 2nd leg at Ibrox
Tam McManus has praised the brilliant performance of Rangers in their 2-2 draw v Benfica and backed them to progress to the next round at Ibrox.
Gers claimed a 2-2 draw in Lisbon thanks to goals from Tom Lawrence and Dujon Sterling, and are now in a favourable position for the second leg to progress to the quarter-final.
But first they will face off against Hibernian in a Scottish Cup clash on Sunday (10 March) and McManus took to his personal Twitter account (7 March) to praise their performance against Benfica but also hoped for good fortune for his team ahead of the game.
“Great result for Rangers but not unexpected,” he wrote. “Fancy them at Ibrox to finish the job.
“Great for our co-efficient too they really have contributed hugely to that in recent seasons.
“PS I hope they are absolutely knackered for Sunday and the plane home gets delayed.”
Rangers consistency is key
Rangers have had a phenomenal second half of the season since Philippe Clement replaced Michael Beale, and they currently sit top of the SPFL and in a great position to progress in Europe.
But it’s even more impressive when you consider that the club is dealing with a major issue when it comes to attacking depth with injuries and also the fact the team were beaten against Motherwell at the weekend.
That was a huge blow for momentum and teams may have felt they could take a swipe at Rangers and look to pray on a weakness that clearly doesn’t exit.
Mentally the team is incredibly strong now and they have the character to bounce back any adversity they may face.
Hibernian will know that on Sunday and will have to find a way to cope if they want to stop Clement’s side from succeeding, while fans can’t look too far ahead either.
