Rangers: Portuguese newspaper shares what Fabio Silva did to Benfica fans last night in 2-2

Fabio Silva made a gesture to the Benfica fans when he was substituted during the Europa League game against Rangers on Thursday (7 March), according to Record.

The Portuguese newspaper reported on page five of it’s print edition on Friday (8 March) that after hearing whistles, the 21-year-old forward raised his left hand and showed five fingers to the fans in reference to his old club Porto’s 5-0 victory over the Lisbon-based club on 3 March.

The Portuguese U-21 international, who is on loan from Wolves, helped the Light Blues pick up a 2-2 draw against the Primeira Liga champions, setting them up nicely for the return leg at Ibrox on 14 March.

Fabio Silva had point to prove for Rangers

It’s clear that Silva still has affection for his former club Porto and he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to remind the Benfica fans about the result at the weekend.

There was no real harm done by the forward as he was just responding to the jeers he was receiving from the supporters inside the stadium.

He probably felt as though he had a point to prove returning to his home country after he hasn’t really kicked on too much since joining Wolves from Porto in a £35million deal in 2020.

The Portuguese has had a reasonable start to life with the Gers, having scored three goals in 12 appearances for the club.

But he will be hoping to have more of an impact when the Light Blues look to earn their place in the quarter-finals of the competition next week at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has mooted a potential Ibrox exit as the Gers look to kickstart their player-trading model.
