Rangers: Alfredo Morelos sends message to James Tavernier after what happened v Benfica

Rangers star James Tavernier has received a message from former Ibrox favourite Alfredo Morelos after the draw versus Benfica.

The Scottish giants played out a 2-2 draw with the Portuguese giants in their Europa League round of 16 first-leg tie on Thursday (7 March).

Lisbon’s Estadio da Luz hosted the match, with the return leg set to take place at Ibrox next Thursday (14 March).

Taking to social media after the match, Tavernier wrote on Instagram: “All to play for at Ibrox. Thank you to the travelling fans.

Among the many players commenting on the post was former Ibrox hero Morelos, who wrote: “Vamos,” which translates as “Let’s go.”

Can Rangers secure memorable win against Benfica at Ibrox?

Philippe Clement may be disappointed at the manner in which the goals were conceded in Portugal, but overall the Gers manager cannot have too many complaints.

Even with Benfica struggling lately, the Portuguese side were always going to be difficult to get past, especially on home soil.

But the visitors managed to find the back of the net after just seven minutes through Tom Lawrence, with Angel Di Maria levelling the game from the spot before the half-time whistle.

Dujon Sterling, however, put the Scottish side ahead again just moments later, with a Connor Goldson own goal leading to a 2-2 stalemate.

It is now all to play for under the lights at Ibrox, where the home supporters will be in full voice as they look to celebrate a huge win with their players.
